For those of you are counting at home this is the second Swing Badder contract for A.J. Burnett. In 2009, Burnett signed a huge 5 year contract with the New York Yankees. He pitched for them three of the years. The good news is that he pitched a lot of innings. However, his record was not impressive. His record for the three years was 34-35. His ERA for each year was 4.04, 5.26 and 5.15.
The Yankees traded him to the Pirates in 2012 for two minor leaguers. They also had to pay the Pirates $20 million of the remaining contract. To the Yankees it was a bad investment that they paid to get off their books.
