In 2013, the Angels signed Josh Hamilton to a 5 year $125 million contract. He played only two seasons. with a high batting .250, and then .262. The former Most Valuable Player played only 239 games in the two seasons, with only 35 Home Runs and 123 RBIs total. In the playoffs he batted 0-13.
A surgery was followed by a drug relapse which kept him out for all of the third season. The Angels did trade him later but had to pay $105 million of the contract. They had a power hitter that never hit more than 25 home runs or 79 RBIs. He only played in only two of the 5 seasons. It concluded with poor performance, injuries and finally a drug relapse.
