In 1999, the Orioles signed Scott Erickson to a 5 year contract for $32 million. The first year he won 15 games and led the league in shutouts with 3. The next year he suffered a season ending elbow injury. He only started 16 games, winning 5. The injury caused him to miss the whole 2001 season. In 2002, he returned but had a 5-12 record with a 5.55 ERA. He tore his labrum and missed all of the next season.

In summary, he missed 2 of the five seasons. He won 15 games in his first season but the next 4 seasons he produced only 10 wins.  This contract was a Swing Badder contract for the Orioles.
