In 2015 the Blue Jays signed Russell Martin to a 5 year, $82 million contract. In his prior season he hit 290. In his first season with the Blue Jays he hit .240. and the next four seasons were lower (.231, .221, .194 and .220). His home runs started at 23 and dropped each year (20,13,10 and 6). The Blue Jays managed to trade him to the Dodgers in the final year.
Martin retired at the end of the contract. The Blue Jays and Dodgers served as a retirement account for an aging and deteriorating player.
