In 2004 the Toronto Blue Jays signed Canadian born Corey Koskie to a 3 year $17 million contract to be their third baseman. He became the second highest paid player on the team,

It did not work out. He played in only 98 games. He hit 11 home runs and only drove in 36 runs for the season.

The Blue Jays then traded him to the Brewers for a minor league player and agreed to eat  $12 million of the contract. After one more season, at the age of 33 Koskie retired with a $17 million reward.
