The Baltimore Orioles signed Cobb to a 4 year contract for $57 million in 2018. This became an immediate disaster for the Orioles; in the first year he won 5 games and lost 15 with an ERA of 4.90. After a hip surgery, he was only able to pitch in thirteen games during the second and third years. The Orioles traded him to the Angels in the 4th year by agreeing to pay most of his salary. That is $57 million for a total of 7 wins in three years.
Ironically, Cobb was 8-3 with a 3.76 ERA for the Angels while the Orioles paid him. Those 8 wins were more than the Orioles received in three years.
